Lady, Gaga???

Lady Gaga seems to have it all, right? I mean she has a platinum album, three top ten singles (two number ones) and her highly conceptual live performances and off-the wall fashion moments have won over the MTV set, but who is this new trend setting micro-mini diva, and what, if anything does she really have to offer?
The singer, who has been performing live shows in and around New York City for the last five years, shocked, appalled, confused and entertained at the 2009 VMA’s. Backstage Madonna said she was “flattered,” by Lady Gaga comparisons. Even the big M, loves her! But I’m very conflicted.
There is no doubt that she is, indeed, experimental, her performance at the VMA’s was one of the most unique and inventive the show has ever seen. She is also a talented pop singer/songwriter. But comparisons to pop icons like Madonna, Kate Bush and Queen seem to me like a bit of an overstatement, at least at this point. Because no matter how much pop-art, stylized, indulgence you put in a performance “Poker face” is still... well… “Poker face.”
Gaga’s music does not live up to the hype. Most of her songs could have easily been sung by Britney Spears or worst. Her lyrics are almost offensively inane ,and ,even though she is a good singer, her vocal runs sound generic. While her image may be pushing the envelope her music is the same old over-produced substance deprived, drivel we’ve been hearing on FM radio for the last 10 years or so.
Now before you go calling me a hater, I will say that she certainly has an abundance of potential to be an important artist, but, as the saying goes, let’s not go counting our eggs before they hatch.

Ha. You just summed up something i've been saying for months. Trust me, I live in the same dorm that Gaga did and I hear enough of her music to know there' s not much to it. As a fashion icon, trendsetter, entertainer, yeah, i'll give it to her. But as a musician-not a singer- she leaves much to be desired.
